Ms. Edmonds reprises the role of Katya in the UK tour of Philip Venables & Ted Huffman's production of Denis & Katya. Revolving around the deaths of two 15-year-old runaways, this multimedia production uses verbatim text to examine the vast public response to these events, what that reveals about our society, and what it means to make an opera out of it.

Ms Edmonds joins an international cast to perform the role of Dorabella in Classical Opera Company's performances of Mozart's masterpiece, Così fan tutte.

Composer Philip Venables and director Ted Huffman−the duo behind the award-winning 4:48 Psychosis–team up once again on this powerful, ripped-from-the-headlines world premiere about the deaths of two 15-year-old runaways. This multimedia production uses verbatim text to examine the vast public response to these events, what that reveals about our society, and what it means to make an opera out of it. Ms. Edmonds makes her Opera Philadelphia debut.

L'ENFANT ET LES SORTILÈGES

Ms. Edmonds makes her debut at Komische Oper Berlin, playing the title role of L'enfant in this imaginative production of Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges. A collaboration with 1927 Theatre Company, presented alongside Stravinsky's Petrushka as a double bill.

Ms. Edmonds returned to the Royal Opera House to sing the role of Varvara in Richard Jones' new production of Janácek's Katya Kabanova, joining rising stars Amanda Majeski and Pavel Cernoch under the baton of Edward Gardner.

Ms. Edmonds performed the role of Semira in the Australian Premiere Hasse’s Artaserse, joining four-time Grammy Award-nominated Vivica Genaux and Helpmann Award-winning countertenor Carlo Vistoli.

Ms. Edmonds performed the role of Mlle Dangeville in the Verbier Festival's performance of Cilea's Adriana Lecouvreur, under the baton of Valery Gergiev. Broadcast live on Medici TV. Whilst at the festival, Emily also performed in the prestigious 25th Anniversary Gala concert, alongside Martin Fröst and Thomas Quasthoff

Ms. Edmonds covered the role of Magdalene in Kasper Holten’s new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg - his “farewell to ROH” production.

MARCH 2017

LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES

Ms. Edmonds performed the roles of Agathe/Dargelos in Les Enfants Terribles, the third in Philip Glass’s trilogy of works inspired by the writings of Jean Cocteau. This production of Glass’s 1996 dance opera, part of the global festivities celebrating Glass’s 80th birthday, was choreographed and directed by the acclaimed choreographer Javier De Frutos.

4.48 PSYCHOSIS

Philip Venables propelled himself to the forefront of contemporary opera with his 2016 adaptation of 4.48 Psychosis, the astonishing final play by the radical British playwright Sarah Kane. Venables responded to the melody and rhythm innate to Kane’s writing to create an innovative and extremely powerful work of music theatre. Ms. Edmonds appeared as a cast member in this new production.

Renowned playwright Martin Crimp warps the Pied Piper legend into a dark political tragedy, as George Benjamin’s dangerously beautiful score for Into the Little Hill lures the audience into a maze of sound and story. Ms. Edmonds appeared as the mezzo-soprano soloist in this lesser-known work.

Ms. Edmonds performed the role of Kate Julian in Benjamin Britten's Owen Wingrave. Based on a Henry James ghost story, Owen Wingrave is a statement of Britten’s lifelong pacifism. Composed during the Vietnam War, it is the story of a young soldier from an eminent military family whose anti-war instincts lead him to rebel against his upbringing.
